End of a Century – Week 3

Welcome to week three. To make up for last weeks lack of softer rocking tracks, we have some…slightly less rocking tracks this week. That doesn’t mean you can’t jam out to them, it just means you’ll have to jam out a little more…moderately. Sometimes taking it easy can be good for you anyway, it lowers the stress levels, gives you sweet sweet endorphins. BUT ENOUGH CHAT LET’S ROCK softly.

End of a Century – Week 2

Welcome to week 2, sorry for the mostly all out alternative rock post this week. Give it a shot even if you’re convinced you don’t like alternative, I once convinced myself I didn’t like rap or metal. What a fool was I! And don’t forget the poll!

The Cranberries – Zombie – 1994

Protest songs often can often polarize fans when it comes to recording artists. Look at John Lennon, Sinead O’ Connor, and well, Green Day. Somehow I doubt The Cranberries upset many of their fans with “Zombie”, a protest song for two children who were killed in an IRA bombing in England. The video for “Zombie” features real British soldiers who thought they were being recorded for a documentary. So maybe, just maybe, they might have lost a few fans in the British army. Either way this video is dramatic, but not in an overbearing way.

Spacehog – In the Meantime – 1996

Like David Bowie? Try Spacehog. Want to know a song that will be fun to sing in Rock Band 3? Try “In the Meantime”. It has a catchy bassline too, a 90’s specialty.

The Presidents of the United States of America – Peaches -1996

Songs about fruit are few and far between. Even if the lyrics have a hidden meaning, you could always just ignore that. You’ll probably have more fun with the song that way, and if videos speak volumes about a song’s true meaning, this one is about eating peaches…and fighting ninjas.

End of a Century – Week 1

Welcome to my first installment of “End of a Century”, a retrospective on the music of years long past now, specifically the 90’s. I will confess that I am hardly old enough to remember the majority of the 90’s, but its music has had a lasting impression on my life. This is sort of a pilot to see whether or not I should continue on with this series.  Weekly installments may include; reviews, music videos, and possibly other unknown pleasures! After viewing this article please drop me a line, a comment, anything, I want to know what you guys think of the topic. Even if you were born in the 90’s, I still want your opinion. I want to make this more exciting for you guys. I want to get you HYPED, and even if you aren’t familiar with the music or the jargon, here is your chance to learn!

P.S. Please vote in the poll at the bottom. This will help decide future videos/songs. Thank you in advance!

Without further ado, today is a music video day. Let’s remember shall we?

Michael Jackson – Black or White – 1991

One of my personal favourite videos of the 90’s, sure, after this it was pretty much downhill for him, but this was a strong video to go out on. It’s a shame that the official Vevo video cuts out the controversial ending, there was still plenty of censorship going around in ’91. It’s a video about cultural diversity, c’mon guys, he’s not Trent Reznor.

Collective Soul – Shine – 1994

It always amazes me when you listen to today’s “Modern Rock” and compare it to the “Modern Rock” of earlier periods. The older stuff just seems to hold up a lot better.  This is a personal diatribe but I feel that it’s due to the changes in attitude and business practices of today. The soul (no pun intended) is just gone now. Nothing Nickelback, Hinder, or 3 Doors Down has done this last decade can ever match songs like this.  Maybe in 10 years I’ll look back more fondly on those artists, there’s always room for change, but in this case I DO fear it.

The Flaming Lips – She Don’t Use Jelly – 1993

The weirdness started early for Wayne Coyne and crew. It’s hard to believe there was a time when Wayne didn’t have a beard and wasn’t over 40. This single was a true triumph for weirdoes everywhere.

Greetings Earthlings

Hey there everyone, let me be the first to welcome you to our new project, “We Fear Change”. This is gonna be the blog to end all blogs, and by that I mean with this new blog the authors hope to create a thriving blog community, a perfect world where posts will happen more than once in a blue moon. This is no simple video game blog, here we’re going to talk about what we want. That can range anywhere from the weather down in Australia to the inner darkness deep in the recesses of our own minds; recommended places to eat to musings on various entertainment medias; which came first the chicken or the egg to “holy crap this skyscraper is awesome, so awesome that I had to share my experience with you”. That’s just the tip of the iceberg my friends, we have some wildly creative minds here and I hope that you’ll give us the time of day, because this blog is for the community, and don’t forget about our dear friend the video game, he’s gonna be a big part of this place as well, but I digress.

One of my dreams has always been to bind this crazy group of people on the Backloggery a little closer together. We want to move conversation past simple, fleeting moments. “We Fear Change” is trying to do the exact opposite, we want to open your mind, because all too often we are given chances in life and do not take or want them. On that note, do not be surprised if we have some ideas come down the pipeline later that will involve you readers, big plans, BIG PLANS. So I hope you’ll stay with us folks, let us help entertain you. Give us a chance and indulge yourselves, you never know, we might become your next vice. I know I’m buckling up, it’s gonna be a wicked trip kiddos.

Oh! And before I forget here, let me introduce myself and the other fine authors that will be with me on this cruise. We currently have 5 of us hard at work here, and we’re always open to more authors, but please give us time to sort out our mess. But numbers don’t give you the names, so I guess I have to! Please welcome, in no particular order the infallible Paladin356 (Or simply Pally) , the lovely Ashen, the quick-witted _hojo, and the zestful Derkomai. This is one fiery crew, and just like DMX, we’re gonna give it to ya.So bring it!
